Extra Credit #1

Joan FabianI admire Joan Fabian because she is truly in touch with who she is and where she's going. It's is very obvious that she is comfortable with herself, and doesn't mind anyone passing judgment on her because she knows her identity. She is a very confident person and seems like she enjoys looking outside the box. Her love for art is mesmerizing, when she talks about it her face lights up and it is enjoyable to witness. It is not very often that a person follows their dream and is successful with it. All of her paintings mean something symbolic to her, and to the viewers themselves. As a person new to the whole art lover's world, I try to dissect the artist's mind and think of what they were thinking about when they constructed this particular piece. She talked a lot about Pakistan. She learned numerous life lessons over there and that experience has changed who she is today. She engulfed the culture and now uses her knowledge of her journey over seas to influence her art works. She explained that a lot of it is patterns and she has a long process that she has to go through before her work is complete. She has to do wood cut outs, sand those, paint them, put them together, it seems like a tedious task. She was very enjoyable to listen too, and seems like a really sweet hearted lady. She is a well respected role model and inspiration.
